Trollmaster Remote Electronic Kicker Throttle Control

I purchased one of these units a few weeks ago. I really like it so far. It makes it very easy to precisely control your kicker's speed. The installation is fairly simple. I did run into one problem when I installed mine, though. I have a 2000 Merc four stroke 15 bigfoot kicker with remote controls.  You cannot move the carb throttle by hand without disconnecting the linkage. So I was curious how this unit would work. The ads say it does not interfere with normal operation of the motor.  After trying to install it, it was apparent that I would have to leave the remote control for the throttle disconnected. This was not acceptable to me, so I contacted the company about it. Their response was, "oh, you need a 'shift kit'. So they were aware of the conflict. Nowhere in the instructions does it say anything about this, I had to purchase the $7.95 kit and $5.00 shipping.  This kit was especially for the 9.9 and 15 hp Merc kicker, it should have been included or at least mentioned in the directions. Also I asked why in the ad it says "does not interfere with normal throttle operation" Their response was that it referred to tiller applications, although it doesn't say that in the ad.

Enough of my whining. I feel better now!!! LOL

This is the installation. As you can see, it's a fairly clean setup. There is a servo on the left, a link to the carb and the shiny lever on the right is the shift kit.  It took about 15 minutes to install it. After installing the unit, you need to run the power leads to the battery, adjust the servo wheel and the linkage and you are ready to go.

In use, its very simple. Start the motor, put it in gear. Then turn the unit on, set the run/idle switch to run, and adjust your speed with the knob. If you get a nice fish on, you can flip the switch to idle to slow the motor, then back to run to resume your speed.
